As part of the current disclosure trend, another contribution to the
ongoing construction of this virtual community. 'disclosure' somehow
makes it sound like its going to be a lot more exciting than it is.
My research is looking at issues of
knowledge, practice, identity and value in relation to places of nature conservation
importance. More or less central to the research are the ways that
'generic' and 'expert' knowledges bound, define and
condition places - both in terms of their physical 'reality', and in
terms of the ways in which people engage with them. (that dualism is of
course heuristic as the physical reality of the place cannot be purified
of how people engage with it or vice versa..............). I'm registered
for a PhD at the Centre for Science Studies, Lancaster University.
My first degree was at Edinburgh Geography Department. I've since gone
fashionably trans-disciplinary, which basically means I don't know where
to locate myself. A more or less cultural more or less geographer with a
smattering of sociology of
knowledge and a penchant for thinking about non-human nature might do as
a label for now.
I'd be pleased to hear from anyone whose
interests might overlap in any way with this amorphous description.
