Interaction designer position - Corporate Design Group, Nortel Networks, UK
Corporate Design Group is part of Nortel Networks, formerly Northern
Telecom, a world leader in unified voice and data networks - see
www.nortelnetworks.com. CDG multidisciplinary teams consist of interaction
designers, user needs researchers and product designers. Our teams work
closely with advanced software development teams in Nortel. The teams
conceive and design products and services that successfully combine a
customer-centred approach with an astute understanding of human needs,
behaviour and cognitive abilities.
The position initially involves developing advanced network management
systems for unified voice and data networks.
The successful applicant will:
- conceptualise and design innovative user interfaces for network management
systems
- build user interface simulations and prototypes
- design visual interface components such as screen layouts, icons, graphic
elements, dialog boxes and windows
- create storyboards and develop multimedia presentations to communicate key
concepts.
Candidates should have:
- graduate qualifications in interface design, graphic design, interactive
systems or computing with a strong human-computer component
- ability to synthesize customer/user requirements with product/system
capabilities and knowledge of human performance capabilities to build
optimal interface designs for specific usability targets
- experience working with complex software systems like network management
- expertise with design tools such as Director, Photoshop, Dreamweaver or
Flash
- creative visual design skills
- sensitivity to work closely with team members with diverse backgrounds
- strong communications skills
- desire to acquire new skills to build innovative solutions for our
customers.
It would be a great advantage to have:
- experience designing user interfaces for network management systems
- familiarity with Visual Basic or Java user interface builder tools for
prototyping
- knowledge of data visualisation techniques
- knowledge of intelligent user interface technology including software
agents.
Location: Harlow, between Cambridge and London in south-east England.
Occasional international travel likely, especially to the main CDG office in
Ottawa, Canada.
Package: Competitive salary to 35k depending on experience. Relocation
