Colleagues
This Christmas and New Year has been the S******t of my life. Chris Luke
was widely quoted in the Daily Telegraph as saying that the NHS was 2 days
from collapse. For 10 days the hospital was full and at one stage there
were 15 patients on trolleys in the corridors waiting to be off-loaded by
the ambulance staff. As usual there was a 6 to 8 hour delay by the DDS so
that we were getting everything. My best was a 20 minute stand up row with
a man with an ingrowing toenail which he had for 4 months. I told him to
write to Tony Blair. I supose I will be handling the complaints for the
next 6 months.
I went to an emergency meeting with the Health Authority, Hospital Trust
and Ambulance Service and literally laid into the Deputising Service and
for the first time in my life people listened to me.
I then hit the front page of the local evening papers and local radio.
Lambasted the politicians for concentrating waiting lists and not emergency
admissions. Was on for 20 minutes and it was 25 years frustation that came
out.
I will either be going for a long rest in the New Year or getting an MBE.
I suppose I will be in the mire next year.
Good Luck
Danny McGeehan
