I think Steve is wrong about the division being based on age or even on
political activity. This was debated at a meeting of BAETA (the British A&E
Trainees Association) last year. I think it may have been at the BAEM meeting in
Birmingham but I cant be sure - Hugo will know.
Somewhat to my surprise a straw poll of those SpRegs present was not in favour
of a name change - yet.
While on the subject of being politically active -
I recently raised with a senior government health advisor the concerns expressed
by some of our specialty about the use of the term Casualty in government
publications.
I was given pretty short shrift being told that if that is what the public
called us then that is what we would be called or words to that effect!
Again I say, before we get caught up with debating another name change let's
finally bury the term Casualty - then we can decide if we want to move on.
