I am confident that my service has got it all in hand. I havn't got a clue
what their plans are and wait with baited breath. I do know some definate
things will happen...
The patients (drunks druggies and real patients) will get the service they
expect.
The A&E dept's will be so full we'll have to dump the patients on the floor
outside the building.
The handover times at A&E will be so long that there a traffic jam of
ambulances trying to get in and out.
We as crew, no matter how busy, will only deal with one patient at a time.
The length of time we spend with the patient will probably be directly
proportional to our exhaustion and enthusiasm to work even harder.
The crews on New Years Eve will get a fortune but the crews who deal with
the mopping up, discharges, the aftermath of alcohol poisoning etc the next
day will get sod all. Even though they will be busier than the night
before...
.. and I will go on holiday, no matter what, as soon as possible after the
New Year and get drunk and be someone else's problem.
