I hope this X posting (below) is of interest. Apologies to anyone who has
already seen it. It comes from the IPR list:

to which many thanks. It is unedited or changed, except I have removed
material following the message copied from elsewhere (after "Megan").
There are two stories in 'Wired' relating to Yahoo! and Geocities refered
to by the original sender. To save time I have given a direct link to them.
I hope this does not cause offence.
If I have not given sufficent acknowledgements in this posting, please
somone let me know. I am still unsure over the etiquette in such situations.

X Posting from [log in to unmask]
"This news story may be of interest - especially to those who may have
webpages hosted at Geocities. Yahoo has recently taken over Geocities, and
Geocities members are being forced to agree to a new contract before they
can update their webpages. The article says this about the new contract:
"To create or update GeoCities pages, members must agree to a contract that
gives Yahoo broad rights over their intellectual property. Under its
terms of service, publishers must give Yahoo a "royalty-free, perpetual,
>irrevocable, non-exclusive and fully sublicensable right and license to
use, reproduce, modify, adapt, publish, translate, create derivative works
from, distribute, perform and display such "Content" in any form or media."
I've had my Geocities page for a couple of years and while I'd admit that
my amateur photography isn't much to look at, I think I may pull it down
just out of principle." Megan
