If you 'really' want the distiction between official and personal
information then fine. What Jeremy from Leeds suggests is OK.

Now that is one thing that I would like to see Universities do. It is
all very well taking students on (+œ1000 fees etc) but then we do not
like to show their pages for whatever they might be worth.
Nevertheless, if you are hopping to prevent the following:
Students will lower the image of the university. (Some might, but the
majority will be typical students doing/saying typical student things).
Protect the University from possible litigation if student x writes
something and the Uni. finds itself in court. (Tough I would say, no
matter what, you are the 'hosting' therefore liable ... etc etc).
What you could be doing is involving your student's association/union and
ask them to take some of the policing on. What I am getting at is let
students police students as opposed to 30 or 40 somethings judging
students :-]

Charles
BTW. In answer to your question we have thought/would like a separate
machine for student pages (one day, time permitting we'll get there ... )
in the meantime users are precedeed by '~' and somewehere there is a page
(disclaimer!) stating what pagess are official and what pages belong to
users.
In short go for the standalone machine + domain name but make sure you
have that index page :)
