Whoops - Paul is quite correct in pulling me up on this point! I was
using the phrase public domain far too loosely. Public
Domain does mean abandonement of your copyright - and clearly does not
apply to someone putting up a web page. What I should have said was web
pages are placed in a public arena, and the expectation is that these
pages will be linked to. All legal advice I have on this point suggests
that publishing a web page *implies* a right for the user to take a
temporary copy for personal use. This right can of course be overuled by
the copyright owner as suggested in an my earlier mailing.
