here's the stuff that's left, another list coming after first of year:
MEDICAL IMAGES FOR SALE
1. DAGUERREOTYPES OF CHILD WITH MYELOMENINGOCELE. This pair of sixth plate
daguerreotypes shows a child with a huge myelomeningocele. One image shows
the child with his/her back to the camera. That image is scratched. The
other image shows the baby in profile BREASTFEEDING. Very important photos,
and very artistic, beautiful, and poignant as well. This pair recently sold
at Swann Gallery in NYC. Price $11,900. (viewable at
http://members.aol.com/earlyphoto/medag).
2. CABINET CARD OF MAN WITH GASTROSTOMY TUBE. Cabinet card in good shape.
Shows a man with his shirt off and showing his surgically incised
gastrostomy tube. "G" tubes are used for feeding and go directly into the
stomach. The surgery was first done in America in the 1870's, but only on
limited basis. This photo is circa 1880's and was probably medical
documentation by a physician. The location of the photographer's studio is
near the Medical School/Hospital in Phildelphia. Comes with some articles on
the history of the procedure and info on the photographers which dates the
image. Price $2,500. (viewable at http://members.aol.com/earlyphoto/gtube).
3. CABINET CARD PORTRAIT OF WOMAN WITH ACROMEGALY. Cabinet card sized
photo of a woman with a huge jaw and facial deformity associated with
acromegaly. Nice clean portrait. Price $95. (viewable at
http://members.aol.com/earlyphoto/acromegaly).
4. GROSS ANATOMY INSTRUCTION. Photo shows a group fo seven doctors posed
in lab behind their corpse. This type of photo was a "rite of passage" for
medical students in the later part of the nineteenth century. Judging by the
ages of the men posed in this photo, this may be a case study as opposed to
students. One man appears in darker robe with traditional hat of the
"demonstrator". Corpse covered but legs, feet, and head stick out. Anatomy
depictions on chalkboard in the background. Wonderful subject matter,
interesting poses, desireable image. Condition: mounted albumen photo with
some foxing you can see in scan. Additionally, the photo was mounted and the
mount has been trimmed away down to the photo. Size of image is 6X8 inches.
Photo still very good, but mount has been trimmed. Could be matted out if
framed. Price $650. (viewable at
http://members.aol.com/earlyphoto/anatomy).
The above photographs are just some of many medical photos for sale. I
have many more images, including several images of medical students posed
with their cadavers in gross anatomy lab. Email me with specific wants and
I'll check and see. May list more in the future, so watch for postings. I
also sell on EBAY, though that's not the best format for these images.
Above prices do not include postage/handling/insurance. Will quote you
that charge upon receiving email from you. I'll sell these images first
come/first serve. If you email a question, mention if you want me to hold
the image. Will hold any image pending questions, concerns, etc. You may
also call me "live" to reserve the pictures at 330.757.7735.
I'm always looking for important images from the history of medicine.
Particularly interested in photos of children with smallpox, pictures of
medical students with their cadavers, and photos of people with respiratory
diseases.
Thanks for looking and hope to hear from you soon.
