As part of a study of representations and perceptions of transport in
Britain in the modern era, I am currently investigating the interaction
between transport concerns (both private and public) and the arts. The
study has a historical perspective, but I am keen to cover the
present-day scene.
I am therefore interested in acquiring information about the involvement
of the contemporary transport industry in supporting the arts. I would
be interested in knowing about about train companies hiring poets, bus
companies sponsoring sculptures, infrastructure companies backing opera
seasons, that kind of thing. To what extent does the modern transport
sector support the arts in Britain? What kinds of activities do they
support, and how successfully? What do they get out of it?
I'm at the stage of an initial trawl for information, so anything anyone
can provide will be of value. Many thanks.
