Subject: Re: Traffic
Greetings, all.
I'm putting out tentative feelers for help on a project concerning
traffic--both vehicular, bodily, and metaphoric. I'm casting a wide
net here, and am wondering if anyone has any suggestions for books,
poems, paintings or *anything* that deals with the problem of two or
more objects occupying the same space (or trying to do so). Other
themes might include circulation (letters, emigration, even blood),
transportation, traffic jams, moving houses, agoraphobia, commerce,
communication, technology...(and I think I've pretty much exhausted
Roget's entry under "traffic!)
I'm focusing on the nineteenth century, but other ideas are welcome
too--I'm even considering a section on the Oedipus myth as the
inaugural traffic jam in Western culture...like I said, the net is
pretty wide at present.
I'd be extremely grateful for any suggestions!
Sincere thanks,
Antonia Losano
