The 3rd Social Aspects of Recreation Research Symposium will gather recreation professionals,
researchers, land and destination managers in Tempe, Arizona. The focus will be on sharing
enlightening information and examples of recreation and tourism research and management
efforts to successfully navigate the challenges and opportunities of our times. Issues to be
explored relate to the diversifying population and customer base, changes in recreation and
tourism products and locales, as well as the evolving nature of places and their meaning in
the 21st century.
Pre and post conference tours will provide participants opportunities to
explore the diversity of people, products and places in the Phoenix metropolitan area and
surrounding environment.
Early bird registration $110, Regular registration $125; students $50 (limited).
Submissions
The purpose of the conference is to provide a forum for examining the current
and longer-term challenges of recreation and tourism associated with a diversity of people,
products and places. The value of the examination is two-fold: (1) to advance knowledge about
recreation and tourism pursuits, benefits and research, and (2) to positively influence
professional practice. There are three reporting formats at the Symposium: paper,
roundtable and poster presentations.
