Do you mean the Central States Anthro Society conference in Chicago in
April? I am on the Executive Board of CSAS and when we were
planning the teaching workshops for the 1999 conference I offered to lead
a workshop (& syllabi exchange) on teaching the "Anthro of Tourism." We
were not sure there would be sufficient interest, however, so we decided
to put that particular workshop on hold. If there is interest I am sure
we can run such a workshop the following year. (I think it is too late to
add to this year's schedule).
Also, for those interested, there will be at least two tourism-oriented
panels at the April 1999 conference. One of these panels consists of a
group of undergrad and grad students from my Fall semester tourism
seminar. They will be presenting their research papers and MA thesis
projects in a panel on tourism, imagery, and identity politics. I am sure
they would be excited to have tourism researchers in the audience. (I
hope subscribers to this group are not offended by this unsolicited plug
for my students!).
Best wishes,
Kathleen
