To whom it may concern
We are looking for a post-doctoral (MD, Neurology) candidate for a two-year
fellowship at North Shore University Hospital - New York University Medical
School (Manhasset, New York) in functional brain imaging in movement
disorders.
The job entails participation in carrying out research PET studies in
Parkinson's disease and related movement disorders. The position involves
the planning and analysis of experimental PET procedures in patients and
control subjects. Interest in statistics is essential. The candidate is
expected to devote considerable time to Statistical Parametric Mapping (SPM)
and Principal Component Analysis (PCA) techniques for [O-15] water bolus PET
activation studies. In addition, the laboratory is involved in PET studies
in patients with Parkinson's disease who have undergone surgery for one of
the following procedures: (1) placement of deep brain stimulators, (2)
pallidotomy, (3) fetal mesencephalic cell transplants, and (4) porcine
neuronal cell transplants. These subjects are undergoing a battery of PET
scans that include [F-18]FDG for glucose metabolism, [O-15] activation for
blood flow, [F-18]FDOPA for dopamine metabolism and
[F-18]FPCIT for dopamine transporter binding. We are also looking at post
synaptic dopamine function in Huntington disease using [C-11]Raclopride for
D2 receptor binding.
The applicant should be extremely comfortable with using PC, especially
Microsoft Office. Some minor occupational radiation exposure may be
involved.
Salary will depend upon qualifications and experience.
