Dear SPM community,
As you know, we are rapidly approaching the end of 99, and the beginning
of 00, and a number of sites are likely to be shutting down many of their
computers, and possibly their mail servers, over the new year period.
This may result in lots of email floating around the internet that cannot
be delivered. Over the new year period, Mailbase will be extending the
queue timeout length to 14 days instead of the usual 7, so messages will
be held on the server for two weeks before being returned to sender if
delivery cannot be made.
Also, it may be an idea to temporarily suspend mail from the spm or other
Mailbase lists over the holiday period. This is particularly recommended
if your mail service will be shutting down over the holiday break. To
do this, you would send this message to [log in to unmask] :
suspend mail all
When you want to start receiving email again, send this message to
[log in to unmask] :
resume mail all
If you want to catch up on all the exciting words of wisdom that you may
have missed while away from the spm mailing list, then you can do this
via:
http://www.mailbase.ac.uk/lists/spm/archive.html
Every so often (e.g., today) , I purge a lot of the SPM mailing list members
who don'tappear to be contactable via email any more (as indicated by lots of
mail delivery failures). If you, or anyone else you know, have been
removed from the mailing list after temporary problems with your computer
network, then I do apologise. Simply re-join the list by sending a
message to:
[log in to unmask]
containing the single line:
join spm <firstname> <lastname>
Have a good New Year,
-John
