Typing <control>-U will remove the current response, clearing the editable
widget (works in command-line usage too).
( Note that this won't work if a GUI widget is selected, including the
( editable widget. This feature is implemented as a window key-press
( callback, which only executes if no GUI widget has the focus. It
( is this window key-press callback that enables you to apparently
( type "into" the edit widget without selecting it.
