Hello all
My name is Donald Meston and I have worked for the past ten years in
chaplaincy in the psychiatric hospital in Aberdeen. My primary
interest at the moment is in care of the elderly suffering from
dementia (of whatever cause). I am working towards a PhD in this at
the moment.
This is a group of which it is often said that nothing can be done,
which is, of course, rubbish. That said, with a largely verbal
training, the issues in communication/care/spiritual care (whatever
that is) with those for whom words can be a difficult thing are not
simple.
The spiritual needs are nonetheless there, despite our difficulties in
finding out what they are, let alone how they may be met.
I have actually been reading this group since its inception, one of
the perils of having shared an office with John Swinton for a couple
of years.
Donald
