Simulation Sessions
Agent-Based Modelling: A New Way of Doing Social Science
October 3-6, 2000, Cologne, Germany
Call for Papers
In October 2000, RC33, ISA's Research Committee on Logic and
Methodology, will be holding its Fifth International Conference on
Social Science Methodology <http://www.za.uni-koeln.de/rc33>. There
will be two sessions on agent-based modelling and simulation as a new
way of doing social science. The sessions are organised by Nigel
Gilbert and Klaus G. Troitzsch.
One session with four to six papers will be demonstrating the
applicability of agent-based social simulation and a second session
with four to six papers will be concerned with tools and techniques
for ABSS.
Applicability of Agent-Based Social Simulation
==============================================
Papers in this session should be on individual-based simulation models of e.g.
* the emergence of organisations, institutions and norms,
* opinion formation,
* negotiations,
* development of science and technology in socio-political contexts.
Tools and Techniques for Agent-Based Social Simulation
======================================================
Papers in this session should introduce new software for agent-based
social simulation and address topics such as
* the unification of different approaches, for instance to combine an
equation-based macro model of the natural environment with an
agent-oriented micro model of the human beings living in it,
* the calibration of social simulation models in order to foster
their use to solve actual problems,
* the comparison and integration of different tools (e.g. Swarm,
SDML, MASSIF, DESIRE, MIMOSE, MAML, etc.) for different research and
application objectives, since there is a number of different tools
available with restricted capabilities which need to be integrated
and to be made more user-friendly,
* the design of new tools and ways to make them available.
The deadline for abstracts is January 31, 2000. Abstracts of around
300 words should be sent to Joerg Blasius (organising committee),
Klaus G. Troitzsch and Nigel Gilbert (session organisers):
