One simulation technic that I have used is Stochastic Petri Nets. I use
Petri nets for simulating the behaviour of public transport units in a
network and analyzing diferent schedules
If you are interesting in leran Petri nets, one short and good introductory
text is: Robert A. McGuigan, "Petri Nets", in John G. Michaels and Kenneth
H. Rosen (Edit).,"Applications of Discrete Mathematics", McGraw-Hill, Inc
(1991) pp. 431-453.
For the application you could to use: Tzes, A. Kim, S. and McShane, W.R.
(1996) "Applications of Petri networks to transportation network modeling".
IEEE Transactions on Vehicular Technology, May vol. 45 No. 2. 391-401.
I hope that this information will be of utility.
