In July of 1999 I will be taking part in a small expedition to the
Bolivian Andes. We intend to achieve some first British ascents in a
little explored range called the Quimsa Cruz. This range is very poorly
mapped. Many mountains do not exist on the current maps, and the ones
that do, do not correleate to the exact position. While we are there we
would like to map some of the area and the mountains. We have use of a
G.P.S. but as we are all Ecologists and Biologists, we have no real
mapping skills. Any information on techniques and equipment would be
very helpful. Any equipment must be light and be able to withstand harsh
weather conditions. I would also appreciate some Bolivian link up, such
as a company that specialises in cartography. If you have any
information on such companies that would be very helpful.
