Special Deal for Students at UK's Premier Science Festival
For just £12 students can join the British Association and attend this
year's Festival of Science for free. From 13 - 17 September, at
Sheffield and Sheffield Hallam Universities, over 300 top scientists
will bring the latest in science to a mixed audience of academics,
students, the interested public and other professionals.
>From the coining of the word dinosaur, to the first demonstration of
radio transmission, the Festival has always been the place to find out
first about scientific discoveries. 1999 sees the big questions in
science addressed in sessions such as "From the Big Bang to Eternity"
where the beginning and possible end of the Universe will be discussed.
Key controversies in science are tackled in sessions on Genetically
Modified Crops. The more unusual aspects of science are revealed in
presentations on the modern use of woad in ink jet printers. There are
even sessions to explode the myths surrounding the scientific claims of
cosmetics.
Whether attending for a day or a week, the Festival provides an
exceptional educational opportunity for students of all disciplines. A
busy social programme complements the lectures, debates and exhibitions
and allows students to mingle with Nobel Laureates and those at the
cutting edge of scientific discovery today. The involvement of
companies such as Zeneca and ICI, makes the Festival the ideal place to
learn more of the employment opportunities in science within the UK and
abroad.
Apart from free registration to Student Members of the BA special
accommodation arrangements have been made at only £8 per night, making
the Festival affordable to all. A further option for students is to pay
£185 for student membership of the BA, five nights accommodation, all
meals, and registration for the Festival.
