If there are any "Models of care" in podiatry these probably only truly
exist with any solid evidence in diabetes care. There is now good
evidence for risk categorization and the required follow ups and
implementation of foot orthoses and therapeutic footwear, plus
indications for orthopaedic surgery and vascular assessments.
Plus preventative aspects of pressure mapping and dermal thermometry.
I don't believe there are any other aspect of clinical Podiatry that has the
evidence base of diabetes care, an area where we have been shown to
make a real difference and an area that the majority of Pods I meet are
totally unaware of!
Of course a "model of care" suggestes that this is universal throughout
the profession which it would appear, even with the evidence, this is not
the case in Diabetes foot care as well as Podiatry care as a whole.
