Dear all,
I have just viewed the AOL web site and was somewhat shocked to see that
they are selling CUSTOM ORTHOSES to the general public. If you log onto:
http://members.aol.com/customfoot/index.html
....it appears that if you select the "how to order" option you can send
off for your own casting kit, send a deposit of $39.50 and then send the
final payment with the casts to make up the full price of $189.50.
$189.50 is over £118.00 per pair (if this is US$ at an exchange of 1.60)!
So, no need for a definitive diagnosis of the problem, no need for a
biomechanical or gait assessment, no need to see if orthoses are indicated
or contraindicated. No need for any professional follow-up. Goodness
me....who needs a podiatrist!? I think I'll quit supporting the podiatry
profession, sell RX orthoses on-line to the public and retire to Bermuda!
If there is someone from Australian Orthotics Laboratory lurking, I would
be interested to hear from you on this service.
