Nice to read when a colleague gets a decent grant.
Colin Thomson at Queen Margaret University College, Edinburgh, division of
Podiatry has won two awards amounting to 29k. BUPA foundation have
underwritten to the cost of 19k, collaborative research between his
division and the Department of Orthopaedics , Princess Margaret Rose
Hospital, Edinburgh to study new joint implants for the great toe. Not
only but also.... the Medical Research Council have come up with 10k to
fund a master's research to evalute the daycare foot surgery service
offered at the division.
Well done, mate and the very best for the future.

When the waltz was introduced in the nineteenth century, it was considered
the dirty dancing of the period. There were three main problems, couples
held themselves temptingly close, they moved into turns a high speeds which
was intoxicating to the brain, and the music tempo was fast. As the craze
swept across the continents the pastime became popular with the lower
classes. This may account for the outburts of moral indignation from the
higher strata of society.
