DEPARTMENT OF CHEMISTRY, UNIVERSITY OF DURHAM, UK
An EPSRC PhD studentship is available starting October 1999
in the Computational Chemistry group of Dr Stuart Althorpe.
The project, entitled "Quantum visualisation of chemical reactivity",
will be to make "wavepacket movies" of gas-phase reactions and
solvent caging effects. The ideal candidate will have strong interests
in quantum mechanics and chemistry, and will want to make the most
of the software development opportunities afforded by this
state-of-the-art computational project.
Applications are welcome from UK and EU residents who hold
or expect to hold a first or upper second class honours degree
in Chemistry, Physics, Applied Maths or a related subject.

Durham is one of the foremost centres of research in computational
chemistry in the UK. We now have four computational chemistry groups
in the department, excellent computing resources, and have recently set up
a new Chemical Informatics Centre with money from the Wolfson Foundation.
