University of Oxford
Physical and Theoretical Chemistry Laboratory,
Postdoctoral Research Position
An EPSRC funded Postdoctoral Research Assistantship is
available for three years to work with Dr T.P. Softley,
beginning May 1999 or as soon as possible thereafter. The
project involves the development of experiments to
demonstrate the control of molecular translational motion in the gas
phase using the Stark effect in molecular Rydberg states.
The use of nanosecond pulsed laser systems and ion imaging
is an essential ingredient of this work.
Further details are available on request.
Applicants should have, or soon expect to obtain a Ph.D. in
experimental physical chemistry or physics. Experience
with the use of laser systems, vacuum/molecular beam
technology, electron/ion optics, and gas phase spectroscopy
would be advantageous. The appointment would be made at
grade RA1A salary £ 15735 - 23651.
Applicants should send a CV with the names of two referees
to Dr T.P. Softley, Physical and Theoretical Chemistry
Laboratory, South Parks Road, Oxford, OX1 3QZ UK. Fax
(0)1865 275410 to arrive by 30th April 1999. For further
