Don't have a lot of information to contribute but in "The Great World War"
there is comment in the section about Gallipoli that, particularly around
Quinn's Post in the period of May 18 - 29, 1915 there was intense mining
and counter-mining activity. "Time after time the defenders detected
mining operations in progress with the obvious intention of blowing them
up, and counter-mined themselves, overwhelming the enemy instead." The
post was named for Major Quinn of the 15th Australian Infantry who was
killed there on the morning of the 29th after a mine had exploded under the
post and it had been captured - he was killed leading the efffort which
recaptured it. Apparently Sir Ian Hamilton has described the action in
much more detail in his dispatches.
