Whilst answering another query, I found the following (by Bill
Harvey), in the Northern Mine Research Society Newsletter for
February 1989, and though it might be of use to someone on the list:-
A Reference to Welsh Mines
Having in the past, received helpful references from the Principality, I
can now make some return, for I noted the following during a recent
visit to the Scottish Record Office.
Hopetoun MSS. NRA Survey No.888. Reference Vol.191.2/19
"A description by Lord Rankellor of his visit to the mines in Halliwall
in Flintshyre, 1688".
Any enquiry about these MSS should be addressed to The Secretary,
National Register of Archives (Scotland), HM General Register
House, Edinburgh, EH1 UY. (Viewing of the Hopetoun MSS is a bit
troublesome since papers have to be ordered, and are then brought to
the SRO in Edinburgh for examination - all. of which can take time).
