The Politics of Social Conflict; the Peak Country 1520-1770, by Andy Wood
(University of East Anglia)
A new book from Cambridge University Press, due out in August, with a strong
element of mining history interest. The author has researched and written
widely on the role of custom, particularly mining custom, in the political
development of the 'working class' of the early modern period and its effect
on the route towards industrialisation.
Having recently read some of Wood's work but not yet having had sight of the
book I am sure that the chosen area of study, encompassing the Derbyshire
lead field, means he will rock a few boats amongst historians at both a
national and local level.
