It is also a well known fact that the Great British Broad Guage was the the
most comfortable mode of rail transport. As far as engineering goes, it is a
well known fact that the broader the guage, the more land you used in
construction since it is also a fact that the larger the curve, the more land
that is used and the longer the line and over a mile length with width,
curves junctions, points, etc., it is also a fact as to paid for it - who was
saving money for whom!??? - or who was loosing out on comfort!!!??? The
American railway barons were into more than railways as we all know; they
were into land: one only has to look into records to find this.
There is nothing wrong with the Great British Broad Guage, Brunnel was in
fact right, since he had the public in mind for the right reasons - then
anyway. He was right in what he put forward, it was the most comfortable
guage to ride on - what happened to the APT, it did not work? Guess why? The
vehicle to guage stresses was not wide enough to cope with the extra forces
put upon the guage itself.
I am sure this will most probably create lots of reaction one way or another,
but I don't care!!!!!!!!!!!
Regards to all, BERNARD R.MOORE - A QUIET ENGINEER!!!!!!!
