In Ansty's book "The Coal Fields of Gloucestershire and Somerset and their
Resources" he indicates (on page 11 of the Kingsmead Reprint) That in July
1861 Mr Handel Cossham read a paper on "The Northern End of the Bristol
Coalfield" to the Birmingham meeting of the Institute of Mining Engineers.
Does anybody know if this still exists
Earlier in the centry Rev Conybeare in conjunction with Philips and Dr
Buckland researched the coalfields also. Ansty Refers to:
- Geology of England and Wales - Conybeare and Phillips 1822
- A paper in the 1824 Transactions of the Geological Society of London
entitled "observations on the South-western Coal district of England" -
Conybeare and Phillips
