I am not too sure of my history here, but I believe that august
body, the Royal College of Surgeons was started by a group of barbers!
Perhaps the time is now for midwives to start their own College or
Trust of Midwifery and seek Royal acclaim. I am fairly certain
that members of the royal family, not to mention the enlightened
public, would seek the benign attention of midwives if their services
became more widely known. When it became known in the 60's that
the Royals 1st. preferences were for homeopathic treatment, the
Royal London Homeopathic Hospital got a great surge of interest,
and increase in patient admittances, and op attendences.
Many of the established colleges and foundations had simple beginnings
and were formed to meet needs that were not being met. Anyone
attended a wife of a Silicon magnate who might be willing
to endow a college or professional organisation?
