Hi Cheryl
My understanding from a talk given by a pathologist, is that the reference range is specific for the appropriate population, ie, if the request slip indicates that the woman is pregnant, then the reference range given is for pregnancy. You could check with the lab that performs the tests.

Hi all,
I'm a newly qualified midwife (UK) and this is my first message to this group.
I'm hoping someone can help me with haematology results for women with hypertension in pregnancy.
An obstetrician recently told me that the normal values of Urea and Urate should be halved in pregnancy, and Creatinine should be less than 50umol/l; but it seems the accepted practice is to go by the normal adult levels as printed on the biochem form. It is normal for these blood tests to be requested where there is antenatal hypertension and mild proteinuria, but I'm confused as to what levels are acceptable before pre eclampsia is diagnosed, or if it matters? (should it be treated as developing pre eclampsia anyway)
