I would like to stress the importance of one of the final sentences
expressed by Marianne Mead, namely:
"There is so much scope for research into the cultural and social aspects
of midwifery."
It is vital for social researchers to understand the socio-economic and
cultural background of many different aspects of maternity care and
midwifery. We can always learn from other cultures and these other
cultures do not have to be sought abroad.
