Thank-you Jane for setting up this list. I am finding it very
interesting and informative, even if my mailbox is filling up rather
quickly these days.
My name is Christine McCourt (aka McCourt-Perring) and I am a social
anthropologist, working in the School of Midwifery and Child Health at
TVU's Wolfson Institute of Health Science. As well as teaching social
science, research methods etc. I conduct research as part of the Centre
for Midwifery Practice, which is linked to the Hammersmith Hospitals
NHS Trust. The Centre has spent a number of years now evaluating the
One-to-One midwifery scheme here in West London, but that is not all we
do!
My main areas of interest are
- analysis of 'Western' health care institutions, and change and reform
movements in such institutions
- consumers' perspectives and experiences of health care
Before working mainly on maternity services in the last few years I was
also involved in research on psychiatry, residential and community care
in the UK. Recent work is focused mainly on women's experiences of
maternity care and on midwife/client relationships and interaction.
Arising from this research I am increasingly interested in the social
and cultural context and ethical implications of the various
forms of antenatal screening
