If somebody is interested in the quantitative growth of the scientific
disciplines as mirrored in the main abstract journals (Chemical
Abstracts, Biological Abstracts, Science Abstracts (including physics
and electrical engineering)), I have attached a GIF GRAPH below. It
represents the cumulative numbers of abstracts 1960-1979. Data are from:
Tague, J.; Beheshti, J.; Rees-Potter, L.: 1981, 'The Law of Exponential
Growth: Evidence, Implications, and Forecasts', Library Trends, 30,
125-150.
The graph is part of a paper to be found at:
http://rz70.rz.uni-karlsruhe.de/~ed01/Hyle/Hyle3/schumm.htm
Note that according to these data, much more than half of all scientific
papers during that period, are from CHEMISTRY.
