The British Association's second Science & Public
Affairs debate
will be held at 6pm on 10 June in the Scientific
Societies Lecture
Theatre, Burlington Place, London W1 (Burlington Place
runs between
Regent Street and Savile Row).
Environmental degradation, GMOs, mobile phones,
scientific
literacy ..... are issues that concern all countries,
and there are many
more. How should they be handled on a global scale?
What can Britain
contribute to the debate and to the resolution of
issues? At the end of
June the UNESCO/ICSU World Conference on Science will be
taking place in
Budapest. What should the UK delegation be pressing
for?
These and other topics will feature in the
discussion on 10
June. John Durant, Director of Science Communication at
the Science
Museum; David Cope, Director of the Parliamentary Office
of Science and
Technology; and Ehsan Masood from Nature - all of whom
will be going to
Budapest - will start the discussion going. After that
it will be up to
you, if you join us, which we hope you will.
Tea will be available from 5.30pm and, with
luck, there will be
drinks afterwards. For catering purposes it would help
if people would
let us know that they are coming - messages to Kath
Williams on 0171 973
3056 or [log in to unmask]
Please pass on information about the event to
others.
