Marjorie Ferguson
Her many friends in British media studies will be saddened to learn of the
death from cancer last week of Marjorie Ferguson. Marjorie, who was 69, had
been a professor at the College of Journalism at Maryland University,
moving there in 1988 after several years at the LSE. She was a pioneer in
feminist media research in the UK; her 1983 book Forever Feminine on
women's magazines drew on her earlier experience as a journalist - she had
for a time been deputy editor of Woman. In recent years she had written
widely on globalisation, the topic of her last book.
