FRAMEWORK 
The Journal of Cinema and Media

Framework is back. Praised for its trans-national, trans-cultural and
analytic approach to film, Framework promoted independent cinema and
oppositional film cultures. Launched in 1974, Framework was last published
in 1992. The Essential Framework: Classic Film and TV Essays, edited by
Paul Willemen and Jim Pines (EpiGraph 1998) presents some of the classic
articles published in Framework over the last three decades. 

The 1999 re-launch of this major journal explores new directions in cinema,
media and cultural studies. Issues will be primarily devoted to studies of
single themes which will explore crossovers and connections in cinema and
media. Framework's focus is to broaden debates in popular and independent
movies and media. The aim is to promote discussion and exchanges among
academics and media practitioners from different intellectual traditions
and national backgrounds. 

The first issue of the re-launched journal, number 40 – 'Seventies Fever:
Influences and Departures' – focuses on the interface between 1970s and
1990s cinema and television culture and theory. The issue includes articles
by Peter Lehman and Susan Hunt on pornography, Michel Chion on Dolby sound,
and a special feature on Manny Farber. 

Issue 41 is on selling cultural products and includes contributions from:
Douglas Kellner on The X-Files; Ellen Seiter and Susan Davis on hero TV and
corporate space as a cultural product; Dave Laing on the conceptualisation
of music video; Andrew Jakubowicz on multimedia and issues of race in
Australia; Lúcia Nagib on new Brazilian cinema; Ackbar Abbas on fashion and
postmodernity, with a response by Peter Wollen.

Framework: The Journal of Cinema and Media is published bi-annually in
Spring (April) and Autumn/Fall (October) by EpiGraph Publications Ltd, UK.
