>From Professor Philip Schlesinger:
Dear Colleague
Library resources for film and media studies
I've been contacted at short notice by the Research Support Libraries
Programme (supported by the four Funding Councils) to write a short
briefing
paper on the specific research needs of film and media studies academics.
I'm afraid that I've asked to do this on very a tight time-scale - the
paper
has to be delivered by 22 October. It's very important because it shows
that
F&M is going to be a potential priority area for resource development and
the paper will complement other work being commissioned on holdings of
resources and questions of copyright.
I'd be very grateful if you could e-mail me with your views and
experiences.
I'm trying to contact as many people as I reasonably can, and do feel free
to forward this e-mail to colleagues.
Some key issues are these:
what are the major resources used in F+M research? (It's acknowledged by
the
RSLP that this will spill over into other disciplines)
what are the issues around access to these?
what could be done to (a) enhance resources (b) improve access?
where are the main film/broadcasting/press or other archives used by
scholars
in the field? (And I would be keen to stress that the field is continually
evolving and its boundaries changing).
All the best
Philip
