THE NOTTINGHAM TRENT UNIVERSITY (UK)
FACULTY OF ART AND DESIGN
DEPARTMENT OF VISUAL AND PERFORMING ARTS
MPhil/PhD RESEARCH STUDENTSHIPS in LIVE ART
(2/3 years, £6,000 p.a. plus fees)
The Live Art Research Unit, Department of Visual and Performing Arts,
invites applications for the following Research Studentships, funded for an
initial period of two years for candidates who successfully register for a
Master of Philosophy degree with the possibility of a third year's funding
to transfer to a Doctor of Philosophy.
Post 1: LIVE ART IN NOTTINGHAM
To compile a critical and documentary history of the development of live art
practice in Nottingham.
Post 2: CRITICAL THEORY
To propose a role for contemporary critical theory in developing appropriate
methodologies for the analysis of Live Art.
Post 3: MOVEMENT-RELATED RESEARCH (LIVE ART)
To investigate interdisciplinary approaches directly informed by
movement-based practices.
Post 4: MUSIC IN RELATION TO LIVE ART PRACTICES
To include research into the potential applications of MIDI to interface
with performers.
Post 5: DEVELOPMENTS IN DIGITAL PERFORMANCE
To investigate the impact of digital technology on Live Art.
Post 6: VIDEO ARCHIVES
(in association with the Theatre Museum, London)
To address the video documentation of performance in all its forms including
live art and theatre and contribute to the Theatre Museum's National Audit
of Film and Video Documentation of the Performing Arts.
CVs, along with a statement outlining intended research outcomes (maximum
