yes, everyone in the museum is very aware how mad it is, but this
is a "departmental" decision....and it seems impossible to get them
to understand about large d/b systems (and of course there is no way,
however robust, that a big Oracle system is going to keep going without
any attention, just the basic dba functions will need doing, never
mind any program problems or whatever).
Of course there is a lot more here than meets the eye. Lots of politics, etc.
It's getting harder and harder in Universities to maintain even the basic
day to day functions. I do wonder how long it'll take for the whole
system to collapse?
Hope to see you at future mcg meetings, I shall definitely keep in
touch, unless I end up with a job in a completely different field -
it's actually quite exciting wondering what's coming along next.
