I am envious of any institution that manages to appear on the web. And as for
the font size, I just sit closer to the screen!
(Anyone with a spare 10 seconds should have a look at Glasgow Museums "website"
http://www.glasgow.gov.uk/html/council/tbindex.htm . Very good for finding out
what phone numbers to phone, but , er.. that's it. Not likely to be a contender
for any website awards just yet. Speaking of which, following the debate on the
Website awards - is there any support out there for setting up a MCG Website
Award for UK sites?
Back to the MGC site. I was slightly disappointed to read on the site that the
celebrities were able to pick items that "should be in museums". It would have
been more interesting to get them all to name objects that were in museums. (If
for no other reason than to see if some of them actually ever visited museums.)
I think this idea could be taken in a slightly different direction. Why not
have a MCG members trawl of celebrities that we would like to see in a museum?
I can think of a few who might improve matters by being placed in Inca cases.
(The Damien Hirst approach would work fine too.)
This might open up cans of worms, but I would kick off with :
Ainsley Harriott, (or indeed any cookery programme chef);
Kilroy, Vanessa, (or anyone else who hosts these daytime TV audience
participation shows for that matter);
and for Scottish members especially - the Crankies! (An easy target I admit,
but worth it for the grief they still cause us)
I was about to include that chap who goes into peoples house in "Through the
Keyhole" and who makes pasta sauces now but I think he holds some position to do
with museums now and so I thought better of it.
