LVRG MEETING
LONDON VIRTUAL REALITY GROUP
This is to announce that the third LVRG meeting in the 1999 series
*REFOCUSING VIRTUAL REALITY* (see details below) is scheduled for
Wednesday 10th November. The topic will be ‘Virtual Reality &
Community’. As with the other meetings in this series, there will be
some short talks, demonstrations, and a 'panel led' debate.
As usual we will be mixing this with time for informal chat, drinks,
etc.
Date: Wednesday, 10th November 1999
Time: 18.30-21.30
Venue: The Virtual Reality Centre for the Built Environment

meeting, and as we can cater for a maximum of 80 people, we will have to

Here is the draft schedule for the evening.

Talks already confirmed:
1. Tim Regan,
Head of Shared Spaces, BT Advanced Communications Technology Centre.
"Viewer to Inhabitant: Are TV Viewers a Community?" Tim will talk about
his groups work over the past few years which has sought to create a
community of TV viewers employing shared 3D virtual spaces. His groups
is well known for their work on ‘The Mirror’ and ‘Heaven & Hell’, and
have just lauched a new set of worlds for the [dotTV] channel.
2. Avon Huxor
Senior Research Fellow, Centre for Electronic Arts, Middlesex University
I will talk about some of my recent research which has reviewed work on
whether community is possible in online environments, and if so, what
features support community.
3. Graham Evans: will talk about community in Active Words and Games
Worlds, the approaches that might support community, software options,
and niche areas appropriate for them, and finally, future directions.
There will be the usual break in the middle of the talks for more drinks
and social….
20.40-21.30 Chaired Debate: The debate will involve the speakers and
will focus on issues raised during the talks and q&a.
