Alison McNab, who manages LIS-UKOLUG, has been experiencing mail
server problems and has been unable to respond to the list concerning
the newsletter spamming that has been occurring over the last few
days. I have reproduced below the text that she has been trying to
post. Apologies for the duplication if Alison's posting has already
made it to the list:
=======================================================
JUNK EMAIL SENT TO LIST
Some unsolicited commercial email has been sent to this list and all
list members.
Mailbase has already been informed, and they're going to
- remove the message from our archives
- make an official complaint to their ISP (internet service
provider)
- block future email from that account
Mailbase already blocks a lot of adverts which are sent out by
looking for suspicious addresses and subject headings, but
unfortunately this message slipped through.
Please don't reply to the message yourself as this may result in more
junk email being sent to you personally.
More information at
http://www.mailbase.ac.uk/docs/junk-advice.html
My apologies to list members who have been irritated by these
messages, and thank you for your representations to me about these
inappropriate postings.
Alison McNab
Listowner, lis-ukolug
