Patenting Life Debate
You are invited to participate in the Derwent Information/CIPA
Patenting Life Debate.
The granting of patents on genetically-modified human, animal and
plant life raises many ethical, religious and political issues. Derwent, in
association
with the Chartered Institute of Patent Agents, has initiated an open
debate to take an objective look at the basis for these patenting decisions.
The debate - to be held in London, UK on Tuesday 23 February - will
bring together representatives from the fields of science, ethics, politics
and the church to enable a full airing of the complex issues that currently
surround biotechnology, genetics and patenting.
You can use the debate web site (http://patentinglife.derwent.co.uk)
to explore for yourself the arguments surrounding these complex issues, to
apply for an invitation to attend the debate, to follow the proceedings on
the day - and to register your opinion by voting after the debate.
