Nominations invited for European Business Librarian of the Year Award 1999
sponsored by the Gale Group
LONDON, 6 September 1999 . The Gale Group, producers of a range of
business databases including General BusinessFile and European Business
ASAP, are inviting nominations for the 1999 winner of the European
Business Librarian Award. This award is open to all UK and European
business librarians currently working in the academic and public arenas,
and recognises excellence and innovation within the profession. The
arrangements for this prestigious award have been co-ordinated with the
European Business Schools Librarians Group and the British Business Schools
Librarians Group, although it is not necessary to be a member of these
groups to be nominated.
The closing date for nominations is 31 October 1999 and the winner will be
announced at the Online Information 99 meeting in London in December, where
the official presentation of the award will be made. The winner will be
chosen by an independent selection committee, chaired by Allan Foster,
Library Director at Keele University. Nomination forms are available from
the Chair or from the Gale Group at the addresses below. Forms can also

The prize will include an award of US$5000/UK
£3,000 ( or equivalent in
winner?s local currency) and a commemorative plaque. The award comprises a
personal cash award of UK£500 or equivalent, with the balance to be used
for approved personal professional development expenses, for example
training courses, research or conferences.
Applicants can be nominated by others, or are free to nominate themselves,
giving full contact details and a short summary (up to 200 words)
supporting the nomination. For example, the nomination could cite an
enhancement to the business library service, an innovative solution, a new
service for users, a stimulating paper or presentation, or any other aspect
of business librarianship in Europe which has enhanced the status of
business information work. The 1998 winner of the award was Andrew
Ettinger, Director of Learning Resources at Ashridge, for his work in
developing innovative business information programmes and materials to
support continuing education and distance learning.
