My colleague Stuart Macwilliam <[log in to unmask]>, who is
not on this list, has asked me to post, on his behalf, the following
comments:
"It's a question of horses for courses. We have three
packages: Simply Speaking Gold, Dragon Dictate Classic, and
Dragon Naturally Speaking Preferred. Of them all, Naturally
Speaking has most people's votes. From our point of view,
the choice of the Preferred edition was important, because
we needed the facility for creating multiple voice files;
otherwise there didn't seem a great advantage over the
standard edition. Obviously the great disadvantage of all
the editions of Naturally Speaking so far is the time for
enrollment - our experience is that it is offputtingly
long. If the new edition cuts it down as dramatically as
claimed, then it's a real boon.
I wouldn't dismiss the discrete voice packages out of hand.
I've seen experienced people use Dragon Dictate Classic
with amazing speed and accuracy. I'm not entirely convinced
that the accuracy rate of Naturally Speaking is that much
higher, though, as a fairly intermittent user myself, I may
be wrong."
I hope that his comments are of some assistance,
Regards,
Ian
