So Dialog is to be an Internet company. The date (1 April) is a bit
unfortunate!
Anyway, the following announcement has appeared on Dialog's Web site
(http://www.dialog.com/)
===================================
Dialog's Global Technology Leadership Recognised Through
Reclassification As Internet Stock
London, 1 March 1999:
The Dialog Corporation plc ("Dialog") (LSE: DLG, NASDAQ: DIALY), a
leading provider of Internet-based information, technology and
eCommerce solutions to the corporate market, is pleased to announce
that, with effect from 1 April 1999, it is to be reclassified by FTSE
International as an Internet company, and will form a part of the new
Internet subsector on the London Stock Exchange.
Dan Wagner, Chief Executive of The Dialog Corporation plc,
commented:
“We are absolutely delighted that, after five years as a publicly
quoted company, we are to be classified in a sector that has proper
relevance to the nature of our business.
“Our current classification as a media stock is misleading and
counter-productive, for the company and it shareholders. Dialog is
the UK’s leading Internet company with a strong and increasing stream
of revenues and profits generated world-wide. In 1998, we generated
in excess of $100 million of revenues from our Internet businesses.
This new classification will help to ensure that this is better
recognised by existing and potential investors, both in the UK
market, and in the US where Dialog is listed on NASDAQ.
“We warmly welcome FTSE International’s creation of an Internet
subsector, as it will help to create better recognition for the many
exciting and dynamic Internet-based companies that have grown up in
the UK in recent years.”
In February, Dialog announced that it was to restructure its
operations in order to provide a greater focus and reporting
transparency to its increasing range of Web-based operations. As a
result, Dialog now comprises three divisions: an Information Services
Division, an Internet Software Division, and a division focussing on
eCommerce for the corporate market.
Dialog’s results for the year to 31 December 1998 will be announced
on 18 March 1999.
