PRESS RELEASE
FENWOOD ANNOUNCES
Version 3.0 of BookWhere 2000
Aldershot : 20 May, 1999
For Immediate Release
Fenwood Systems announces the immediate availability of
Version 3.0 of BookWhere 2000, the professional Internet research software.
This version incorporates significant new capabilities in three major areas:
i) it has been designed to satisfy the requirements of our growing
international customer base including support for European record types and
a multi-lingual user interface
ii) the built in selection of target databases has been greatly expanded
iii) many features have been added to improve the simplicity of use such
as target database auto-configuration.
BookWhere 2000 is a 32-bit Windows based client application
that allows
users to simultaneously search hundreds of large information
databases on the Internet using the Z39.50 protocol. Simple access to
structured databases containing information on virtually everything
published is provided with this software. BookWhere 2000 retrieves
information that is not available from any of the current Web based search
engines.
With Version 3.0, BookWhere has further extended it's
support for international data formats with the addition of UKMARC, UNIMARC,
and CAN/MARC. Libraries of all types throughout the United Kingdom will
benefit from the ability to capture, display and export UKMARC records to
their local systems. UNIMARC support has also been added to facilitate the
international exchange of bibliographic data particularly between European
customers. The Canadian CAN/MARC format is another new format joining the
previously supported USMARC, SUTRS (Simple Unstructured Text Retrieval
Standard) and GRS~I.
The BookWhere User Interface now supports multiple
languages, including English, French and Italian. Additional languages and
translation revisions will be made available on our Web site as they become
available.
Version 3.0 is packed with powerful new features such as
"Learn" and a
greatly improved "Browse". The "Learn" function allows the
software to self-configure the User Interface. The software automatically
tests servers to determine what search attributes (indexes) are supported.
Unsupported search types are then suppressed from the display when these
servers are selected.
The "Browse" function has been greatly improved providing a
full window display and allowing the user to move forward and backward in an
index. "BookWhere is the acknowledged leader in Z39.50 Internet searching.
This version once again raises the standard for professional Internet
research software." says Richard Earle, President of BookWhere's authors,
Sea Change Corporation, "Version 3 incorporates an extensive built-in
directory of specialised databases that can be accessed with a simple point
& click selection; no other software can provide as selective yet thorough
results with the ability to search so many quality databases, in parallel,
and with detailed search parameters".
A free evaluation version of the software is available for
download from the Fenwood web site (www.fenwood.co.uk)
